D’Angelo Net Worth $2 Million

D’Angelo was brought up in a Pentecostal family, as his father was a preacher at the Pentecostal church. He fell in love with music at the age of three, when he began playing keyboards, and by the time he was in high school, D’Angelo was playing organs at church, and in addition he covered songs from musicians such as Steve Wonder, James Brown, and Prince, stating the latter as his musical idol. In his high school days, he became more focused on music, participating in the Amateur Night held in Apollo Theater, winning $500 and investing all in his future career. He then dropped out of school, and moved to New York.

Before D’Angelo ventured on a solo career, he was a part of the hip hop group, I.D.U. with which he released one album, which he self-produced, however, he wanted to work solo, and sent a demo tape to the EMI records, and in no time he received a contract offer.

He began to work on his debut album immediately after he put his name on the contract, and “Brown Sugar” reached No. 4 on the U.S R&B chart in 1995, achieving double platinum status with more than two million copies sold, which increased D’Angelo’s net worth by a large margin, and encouraged him to continue with his musical career.

After the album release, he went on a tour which lasted for two years, and which also added a lot to his net worth, but after it ended, he experienced writer’s block, and another two years passed until his next album came out. He got back on track in 1999 when he began to work on his second album, entitled “Voodoo”, which came out in 2000. The album became even more successful than his debut release, as it topped both Billboard 200 chart, and U.S R&B chart, and achieved platinum success, increasing further his net worth.

After the release of his second album, D’Angelo career began to decline, as his life began to crumble, as he suffered from substance abuse and had several legal problems, which resulted in jail time, however, he eventually returned to music in 2012, embarking on the European tour, and two years later released his third album, entitled “Black Messiah”, which topped the US R&B chart with more than 117,000 copies sold in its first week, which also added a lot to his net worth.

Most recently, he announced that he is working on his fourth studio album, but there are no details about the name or release date so far.

Thanks to his talents, D’Angelo has received several prestigious awards, including Grammy awards for, Best R&B album, Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, and Best R&B Song, among others.

When it comes to his personal life, D’Angelo has a son with his ex-girlfriend, singer Angie Stone, whose debut album he produced. The two dated from 1990s until 2005, when she left him, as D’Angelo’s problems with drugs and alcohol began to worsen. After he became aware of how critical situation was, and that it could ruin not only his career, but his whole life, he checked in to the Crossroads Centre, a rehabilitation clinic, located in Antigua. The long-term results are still uncertain.
