Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) was made way ahead of its time. The subject and the treatment forced people to sit up and think out of their comfort zone. On its 10th anniversary, we fondly walk down memory lane and list 10 things we love about the movie...

Karan Johar's out-of-the-box experiment
Stepping out of his comfort zone KJo made a brave film about a subject no one wanted to talk about. KANK was about infidelity, but he maintained a thin line to neither justify it nor criticise. KANK was probably the first downright commericial movie after Yash Chopra's iconic Silsila (1981), that was made on this topic.

Shah Rukh Khan playing a flawed hero
Shah Rukh Khan probably played his most anti-Rahul role in KANK. His character Dev Saran, a bitter, damaged ex-soccer player is the opposite of the 'heroic’ archetype we are so accustomed to see him in. He manages to portray the angst-filled character with apparent ease.

SRK’s and Rani Mukerji's great chemistry
Dev’s forbidden relationship with the married Maya Talwar (Rani Mukerji) is uncomfortable to watch yet engaging. Even though Kajol was the first choice for Maya's role, now that we have watched KANK, we can't imagine anyone but SRK and Rani as Dev and Maya.

Preity Zinta's bravura act
Preity played Rhea Saran, a sorted, independent, career-oriented fashion magazine editor who loves her family. She slaps her husband and throws him out of the house when she learns about his affair, breaking the sati savitri stereotype our heroines have been saddled with. We loved her strong character that aptly portrays a modern day, urban woman.

Love getting a second chance
Dev and Maya's character gives all us love fools some hope that love can get a second chance. They both fall in love outside marriage; leave their spouses and yet manage to get a happy ending. We are no one to judge here, but it's true, two people who love each other should be with each other.

The warm father-son bond
Amitabh Bachchan plays Sexy Sam, a cool character who is busy drinking, partying and flirting with women half his age. He shares a brilliant rapport with his son, Rishi (played by real life son Abhishek Bachchan) and we see many heart-warming moments between the two in the film. But we also see a different shade of his character when in his death bed he advises his daughter-in-law Maya to leave Rishi.

An amazing supportive cast
Kirron Kher plays Dev's mom, a dignified lady who doesn't think twice before apologising to her daughter-in-law Rhea for son Dev's extra-marital affair. Even Ahsaas Channa, the kid who played Dev and Rhea's son stands out. And how can we miss Arjun Rampal, who shines in a little role as Jai, Rhea's boss.

Great music
Composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and penned by Javed Akhtar (they always create magic together. Remember Dil Chahta Hai?), KANK gave us beautiful music. Be it the groovy Where's The Party Tonight?, the soulful Tumhi Dekho Naa or the feel-good Mitwa, it's a beautiful album that never gets old.

The picturesque visuals
It's a Karan Johar film at the end of the day so we see beautiful songs where SRK and Rani wears colour-coordinated clothes that are shot in beautiful landscapes. We get to see the gorgeous city that is New York through the eyes of these characters. Anil Mehta's cinematography creates magic on celluloid.

John Abraham and Kajol's fun cameos
While John plays a DJ in the song Where's the party tonight, Kajol appears in the song Rock 'N' Roll Soniye where she looks stunning in a pink saree. We are sucker for such surprises.
